UTAH HUNTING GUIDE CONVICTED AFTER SHOOTING AT CATTLE DURING POACHING INVESTIGATION
In the grand annals of profoundly stupid decisions caught on front-facing cameras, this recent story coming out of Utah deserves an honorable mention. A registered hunting guide, who it seems is no stranger to the law, is now in hot water after he recorded himself slinging arrows at livestock while being under investigation for poaching deer.
According to the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources, officers executed a search warrant on the man’s cellphone during the poaching case and recovered some pretty damning non-wildlife related footage…

Massive black bear weighing twice the average tagged in Ohio: This week, Ohio wildlife officials collared a male black bear that tipped the scales at nearly 600 pounds, almost twice the average weight, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources posted to Facebook on June 11. ODNR Division of Wildlife staff biologist Katie Dennison said that she “didn’t expect to see a male bear this big” in Ohio. Read the full story.

Penticton vintner fined $10,000 for shooting deer in vineyard: A South Okanagan vintner has been fined $10,000 for shooting a mule deer that caused $30,000 of damage to his vineyard. Matthew Alexander Holler appeared in a Penticton courtroom June 15 and pleaded guilty to shooting the deer out of season. Read the full story.
Florida Bear Hunting Lawsuit Moves Forward: A lawsuit filed regarding Florida’s bear hunt and the process to establish it is in a holding pattern, but has a trial date set in August. An animal “rights” group filed the suit, alleging that Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation officials used outdated data about bear population numbers and lacked scientific justification for the 2025 hunt, and future hunts.
