NEW HAMPSHIRE MEN PLEAD GUILTY IN SCHEME TO POACH 41 BOBCATS, SELL PELTS IN CANADA

A trio of New Hampshire men have entered guilty pleas in federal court for their role in a massive cross-border poaching ring involving the illegal hunting and trapping of upwards of 41 bobcats. 

According to prosecutors, the men ran a clinic on the protected cats between 2018 and 2022 using bait piles on their own property and on state land. They then took the pelts to New York, where one of them obtained false CITES tags making the animals appear to have been killed there. Moving beyond New York, the enterprise took an international turn as the pelts were then shipped on toward a fur auction in Canada…

Bow hunter injured by stray bullet from nearby target shooting, police say: A 38-year-old bow hunter is in critical condition after being struck by a stray bullet while hunting in Essex Township, police said. Ohio Approves $25 Million for Public Hunting Land Acquisition: In early 2026, the Sportsmen’s Alliance called on Ohio Governor Mike Dewine to earmark $25 million in the state’s Biannual Capital Improvements bill to acquire lands in southern Ohio formerly owned by the Mead Paper Company. Now known as Scioto Land Company-BTG lands, these tracts have become available as the company sells its holdings. Read the full story.

Father and son shot dead in attack on Norway hunting party: A father and son were shot dead and a third person critically injured near the Norwegian town of Halden on Sunday morning, the NTB news agency reported. The victims, a man in his 70s and his son, who was in his 40s, were part of a hunting party that was preparing to set out when the gunman opened fire.

"They were standing in the yard waiting to be assigned their hunting positions when the perpetrator began shooting at the group," police prosecutor Anders Svarholt told NTB.  Read the full story.
