Welcome to the Wednesday edition of the newsletter. If you’re still with us, that means you’ve made it to the middle of yet another week.

With that said, let’s all take a minute to grab a coffee or whiskey and get this mid-week dispatch out the door.

Here's what's worth reading about this morning:

  • Is this for real? - A Mass. man has been charged after shooting his wife’s dog from a window in his home while “coyote hunting” 🤦

  • Open season - Well, kind of, at least for Saskatchewan farmers dealing with pesky elk 🧑‍🌾

  • Slowing the spread - More actions coming out regarding the management of CWD at the Jackson feedgrounds 🤒

  • Going mobile - Both Montana and Washington are rolling out new ways to purchase your licenses 📱

  • Odd growth - I can’t honestly say what’s going on with this buck 🤷

SO DANGEROUS
MASSACHUSETTS MAN CHARGED AFTER SHOOTING FAMILY DOG FROM WINDOW DURING ALLEGED COYOTE HUNT

A 59-year-old Massachusetts man is now up against multiple charges, including animal cruelty, after police say he fatally shot his wife's 14-year-old dog from a second-floor window last summer while claiming to hunt coyotes.

Christopher Lucas was arrested on Monday following a months-long investigation into the August 16, 2025, incident at a home in the quiet Cohasset neighborhood. According to the Cohasset Police Department, Lucas discharged a firearm from a room above his garage, striking the family pet, named Lise, in the head as the dog stood in the driveway.

“She was in the front yard of her residence in Cohasset, with her two dogs, when her husband fired a gun that struck one of her dogs in the head,” Prosecutor Kelsey Shea said. “She stated that the dog that was struck was not on a leash at the time, and she was standing approximately five feet away from the dog.”

QUOTABLES // WORDS TO LIVE BY

“The way to hunt is for as long as you live against, as long as there is such and such an animal; just as the way to paint is as long as there is you and colors and canvas, and to write as long as you can live and there is pencil and paper or ink or any machine to do it with, or anything you care to write about, and you feel a fool, and you are a fool, to do it any other way.”
