A 32-year-old man from the San Diego area is lucky to be alive after setting out for what should have been the triumphant final day of a backpacking trip in Montana’s Glacier National Park. On May 28th, Daniel Crago was exploring the Grinnell Glacier Trail, an iconic ~11-mile out-and-back route in the Many Glacier area, and was descending a snowfield when he was suddenly reminded, in the most visceral way possible, that he was smack-dab in the middle of  grizzly country…

Spring turkey hunt stats for central Ohio and the rest of the state: Hunters checked 15,887 turkeys by spring season’s end May 31, the Ohio Division of Wildlife reported. That’s counting a two-day youth hunt in April, a South Zone season that concluded May 24 and the later-starting and later-ending Northeastern Zone season confined to five counties. Ontario man fined for illegal deer hunting faces one-year hunting ban: Conner Heideman, of Eganville, pleaded guilty to hunting big game without a licence, unlawfully possessing a loaded firearm in a conveyance, failing to immediately invalidate a tag, and failing to properly attach an invalidated tag. He received a $2,500 fine and is prohibited from possessing an Ontario hunting licence and engaging in any hunting activities in the province for one year. Read the full story.
